2/6/2015 - Letter from Kingdom Equestrian Officer.

Greetings from your new Calontir Kingdom Equestrian Officer- Saito Jiro no Bitchu.

I want to start off by saying thank you to Master Madoc for all his hard work and dedication as our KEO.

I personally believe Calontir has one of the strongest, fastest growing and coolest equestrian programs in the SCA known world.  I have traveled to many foreign equestrian events, and spoken with KEOís and marshals from other kingdoms in round tables. And from what I have seen and heard I think we really do have something special going on in Calontirís equestrian program.  We have seen growth in many areas including equestrian games, mounted combat, wood and foam jousting and mounted archery.   Our numbers continue to grow and this Kingdoms equestrian skill levels are climbing to ever greater heights.  Even at foreign wars and events Calontir equestrians often run many of the activities and often dominate the competitions.   I am hoping while I am serving as your KEO we can continue to grow this already great equestrian program and continue to add new things.

If youíre not an equestrian today but have an interest I would invite you to come join our fun. We are a very welcoming group.   But I often hear how people arenít aware they are welcome at the equestrian field and didnít know there are many ways to participate.  You donít have to own a horse to be in Calontirís equestrian program.   Not everyone can or has an interest to ride. The Calontir equestrian program has room for many more people than just riders.   We need ground crew, marshals, heralds, scorekeepers, water bearers and more.  Being those people gets you a front row seat in the action helping with the equine events and can be a lot of fun.  Often these volunteers end up forming friendships with equine owners, and end up riding those new friendsí horses.  And becoming riders themselves.  But even if you choose to never ride we would love to have you join us if youíre interested in being around the equines. Too often I have heard people say they didnít know they were welcome at the equestrian field if they didnít own a horse.   Thatís untrue.  I would like Calontir to change that misconception.  With your interest and a few minutes training you could start participating at the equestrian field in various levels depending on what you want to put into it. Check out our Equestrian website at and the article there entitled ďWant to come play on the equestrian field and don't have a horse?Ē by Master Madoc for more details.  Or contact myself, or any Calontir Equestrian marshal for more details.
